COLBY, Kan. – The No. 11-ranked Colby Community College volleyball team is back in action this week with two key conference matchups. The Trojans travel to Cloud County tonight (Oct. 8) before returning home to host Hutchinson on Saturday (Oct. 11) inside the Colby Event Center. Saturday's matchup will also serve as Domestic Violence Awareness Night, and fans are encouraged to wear purple in support of the cause.
Colby enters the week riding a hot streak, sitting at 17-4 overall and a perfect 9-0 in KJCCC play. The Trojans are coming off a hard-fought five-set road victory over Garden City, continuing their unbeaten run in conference competition.
Statistically, Colby leads the KJCCC in several categories, including kills and assists per set, while averaging a league-best 17.9 points per set. The Trojans also dominate from the service line, pacing the conference with 2.51 aces per set.
Offensively, sophomore outside hitter Karlotta Kattai continues to shine, leading the team with 286 kills and ranking third nationally in kills per set (4.09). Kattai also powers Colby's serve with a team-best 37 aces. Running the offense is setter Amanda Caputi, whose 799 assists (11.41 per set) rank second in the NJCAA, helping drive one of the most efficient attacks in the nation.
Defensively, libero Anita Ferri anchors the back row with 207 digs, while Ella Dridi has been a key two-way contributor, tallying 156 digs and 141 kills. At the net, middle blocker Isadora Carrareto leads the Trojans with 50 blocks (0.94 per set), providing a strong defensive presence.
Cloud County (6-18, 0-8 KJCCC) enters the week searching for its first conference win. The Thunderbirds have totaled 767 kills and 717 assists this season, led by outside hitter Grace Rowland, who paces the team with 176 kills (2.79 per set). Setter Addyson Ogle has distributed 304 assists (5.15 per set), while libero Mina Kaneko anchors the defense with 255 digs.
Hutchinson (11-13, 3-6 KJCCC) visits later this week, looking to rebound after back-to-back losses. The Blue Dragons are led by outside hitter Alondra Villanueva, who has notched 304 kills (3.38 per set). Setters Angela Reupena and Alexandra Garcia each contribute over 400 assists, while Clara Oliveira leads the defensive effort with 471 digs.
