The No. 12 Colby Community College volleyball team returns to action this week with a pair of conference matchups. The Trojans will host Dodge City on Wednesday (Sept. 17) at 6:30 p.m. inside the Colby Event Center before traveling east to El Dorado on Friday (Sept. 19) to take on Butler Community College.
Colby enters the week with an 11-4 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in KJCCC play after sweeping Hutchinson and splitting matches at the Northeastern JC Tournament. The Trojans lead the conference in total kills and assists while also averaging a league-best 17.9 points per set. Colby has also been dominant from the service line, pacing the KJCCC with 315 total aces.
The Trojans' high-powered attack is led by sophomore outside hitter Karlotta Kattai, who has already recorded 209 kills while averaging the best mark in the nation (4.45 k/s). Kattai also ignites the service game with a team-leading 28 aces through 15 matches. Running the offense is setter Amanda Caputi, whose 531 assists (11.3 a/s) rank first in the NJCAA by nearly a full set per match.
Defensively, libero Anita Ferri has anchored the back row with a team-high 161 digs, ranking sixth in the KJCCC at 3.43 per set. Ella Dridi has been a two-way standout, contributing the second-most digs on the team (136) while also ranking second in kills (119). At the net, middle blocker Chiara Binda has posted 30 blocks to lead the team, while Isadora Carrareto continues to make strides with 22 blocks of her own.
Dodge City (8-7, 2-1 KJCCC) enters Wednesday's matchup coming off a four-set home loss to No. 8 Barton. The Conquistadors average 10.73 kills per set while hitting .199 as a team. Offensively, outside hitter Kayla Cantrill leads the attack with 151 kills (2.90 k/s), while setter Chelsea Durbridge has been the catalyst, distributing 473 assists (9.1 a/s). Defensively, Mali Towers anchors the back row with 120 digs, providing consistency in serve-receive and coverage. At the net, Dodge City has been one of the toughest blocking teams in the KJCCC, featuring four players with 20 or more blocks. Amariah White leads the group with 55 total blocks, helping the Conquistadors pace the conference with 282 team blocks.
Butler (9-7, 0-3 KJCCC) has faced a tough start to conference play, dropping matches to No. 8 Barton, Dodge City, and Seward County. The Grizzlies, who began the season receiving national votes, opened the year with a strong showing in Amarillo, Texas, going 3-1 with their only loss coming to host Amarillo College. Despite recent setbacks, Butler has established itself as a high-volume attacking team, averaging 11.48 kills per set while hitting .217 overall. Outside hitter Rylin Sommer leads the offense with 136 kills (2.39 k/s), supported by two additional Grizzlies who have already surpassed the 100-kill mark. Running the attack is setter Bella Holcomb, who has distributed 383 assists (6.96 a/s). On the defensive side, Taylin Stallbaumer has anchored the back row with a team-high 190 digs, averaging 3.17 per set. At the net, Ryann Hamilton has been dominant, ranking fourth in the nation with 81 total blocks to spearhead the Grizzlies' presence at the net.
With a perfect start in conference play and eleven sweeps already on the season, the No. 12 Trojans enter the week looking to extend their momentum against league competition. After this tough stretch, the team will return home to host No. 8 Barton on Wednesday (Sept. 24).
