LIBERAL, Kan. — The Colby Community College men's basketball team dropped its second conference contest of the season Saturday (Nov. 23) night, falling 73–56 to Seward County inside The Greenhouse. Despite a strong perimeter shooting performance, the Trojans were unable to overcome the Saints efficiency.
Colby (2-6, 0–2 KJCCC) knocked down 10 threes on the night and shot 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, but Seward County countered with a balanced offensive attack, converting 50 percent from the field and earning 35 trips to the foul line.
Freshman guard Braedyn Gillespie led the Trojans with 13 points on 4-of-12 shooting, including three makes from deep. Kellan Simoneau provided a spark off the bench, hitting four triples to finish with 12 points in 17 minutes. Gabe Njenga added nine points and a team-high five rebounds, while Elias Agba posted seven points and two assists. Daniel Cramer chipped in five points, four rebounds, and two assists, and Giannis Asimakopoulos added four points and three boards off the bench.
Seward County (1–1 KJCCC) used its size and pressure defense to create separation in the second half. The Saints won the rebounding battle 33–24 and forced 24 Colby turnovers, converting them into key scoring opportunities. Antonio Williams Jr. paced the Saints with 18 points, while RJ McKinnie added 14 and Lucas N'Gombo recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. Seward also posted 15 steals as a team.
Despite the loss, the Trojans again saw contributions across the roster, with 13 assists on their 15 made field goals and a continued improvement from the three-point line.
Colby returns to action Tuesday (Nov. 25) against the No. 11 Barton Cougars at Great Bend.
