Women's Wrestling Battles Through Tough Field in Hays
The Colby Trojans women’s wrestling team finished at the 2025 Bob Smith Women’s Open in Hays Saturday. Facing deep brackets and nationally recognized opponents, the Trojans demonstrated competitive toughness across all weights, highlighted by unattached Aspen Sharpe’s standout performance at 110 pounds.
HAYS, Kan. - The Colby Trojans women's wrestling team finished at the 2025 Bob Smith Women's Open in Hays Saturday (Dec. 6). Facing deep brackets and nationally recognized opponents, the Trojans demonstrated competitive toughness across all competition weights.
Aspen Sharpe led the way with a fourth-place finish, scoring 15.5 points behind an impressive trio of pins. She opened her day with back-to-back falls in 2:09 and 1:23 to advance into the semifinals before dropping a tech fall to Oklahoma City's Alexis Miller. Sharpe rebounded in the consolation bracket with another dominant pin in just 1:01, ultimately reaching the third-place match where she finished fourth after being caught late by Schreiner's Mia Brown.
Also at 110 pounds, Audrie Felkins added 2.5 team points while showing resilience in the consolation rounds. After a first-round setback, Felkins responded with a fall over Schreiner's Morgan Pinzon before being eliminated in her next match. At 131 pounds, Emma Parker matched Felkins' total, bouncing back from an early loss with a pin over Schreiner's Kyllysta Dawkins before exiting the bracket in the following round.
At 160 pounds, Kaylen McAtee provided another strong effort for Colby, posting two first-period pins, one in just 58 seconds and another in 1:05, to finish with 5.5 points while navigating a challenging bracket. In the 138-pound division, Jazrine Nieto received two byes but was unable to advance after falling in both of her contested matchups.
Assistant coach Anastasia Hardin, competing unattached, delivered one of the strongest performances of the entire tournament with a third-place finish at 160 pounds. Hardin opened her day in dominant fashion, recording back-to-back falls before securing a 14–3 tech fall in the quarterfinals. After a narrow semifinal loss, she responded with authority, pinning Minot State's Aliana Barnoski in just 50 seconds in the consolation semifinal. Hardin closed out her day with another fall, defeating Fort Hays State's Marissa Porsch in 3:51 to claim third place and rack up 22 points.
Despite facing experienced and nationally competitive opponents throughout the tournament, the first year Trojans gained valuable mat time and continue to build momentum as the season progresses.
