The Colby Trojans women's wrestling team returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 6) as they travel to Hays for the annual Bob Smith Open, one of the region's premier early-season events. With more than 150 wrestlers representing 12 collegiate programs and several elite clubs, the tournament provides a significant challenge and a valuable development opportunity for the Trojans' young squad. Live video and results will be provided via Flo Wrestling.
Colby will be represented by Emma Parker, Kaylen McAtee, and Jazrine Nieto, while Aspen Sharpe will compete unattached.
Parker heads into the weekend carrying strong momentum from last week's Missouri Valley Open. Competing at 131 pounds, she powered through her opening match with a first-period fall over Campbellsville's Shai Ring, showcasing the toughness and confidence she has brought to the mat all season. McAtee also delivered a standout performance, securing a rapid 1:05 pin against Missouri Baptist's Cara Cheng in consolation action, another example of the competitiveness Colby continues to build within its room.
Nieto looks to gain valuable experience as she continues to navigate her early-season schedule, while Sharpe will aim to capitalize on additional mat time in unattached competition.
Against a deep and talented field, the Trojans will use the Bob Smith Open as both a measuring stick and an opportunity to keep elevating their standard as the season progresses. Colby will stay on the road next week, traveling to Nebraska for duals against Sioux Falls and Hastings on Thursday (Dec. 11).
