MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Colby rodeo team opened the spring season with a solid showing at the KSU Rodeo, highlighted by a short-go appearance in team roping by Lakoddah Downes and Kade Homm.
Lakoddah Downes delivered one of the top performances of the weekend in steer wrestling. Downes posted a 5.1-second run that would have ranked as the fourth-best time in the field and secured a spot in the short go, but a broken barrier added a 10-second penalty, resulting in a final time of 15.1 seconds and an 18th-place finish.
The Trojans' best overall finish came in team roping, where Kade Homm and Lakoddah Downes placed ninth with a time of 8.9 seconds. The duo advanced to Sunday's short go but did not record a time in the finals.
Colby's breakaway ropers saw Dali Reser tie for 26th with a 3.0-second run. Brooklynn Hughes represented the Trojans in goat tying, finishing 53rd with a 13.0-second run.
