The Colby Trojans men's basketball team returns to conference play this week with a pair of critical road matchups, traveling to Hutchinson on Wednesday (Feb. 18) before closing the week at Pratt on Saturday (Feb. 21). Both contests carry significant implications in the conference standings as the Trojans continue their push toward postseason positioning.
Colby enters the week with a record of 5–20 (3–16 KJCCC) following a competitive loss to previously top-5 Coffeyville, where the Trojans remained within striking distance before the Red Ravens pulled away in the final minutes.
Sophomore D.J. Cason leads the Trojans offensively, averaging 15.3 points per game while connecting on 2.6 three-pointers per contest. He ranks among the conference's most efficient shooters, leading the league in three-point percentage (47.8%) and free throw percentage (92%).
Aliou Diallo provides additional scoring production at 11.2 points per game and shares the team lead in assists with Cason at more than two per contest. Nana Keutcha anchors the Trojans on the glass, averaging a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game while increasing his scoring output in recent contests. Giannis Asimakopoulos adds balance in the frontcourt, contributing 10.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Hutchinson enters the matchup 11-15 (6-14 KJCCC) while averaging 73.7 points per game and features three players scoring in double figures. Kyrell Shaw leads the Blue Dragons with 21.8 points per game on 48.3 percent shooting and scored 32 points in the previous meeting with Colby. Despite Shaw's performance, the Trojans secured a statement victory in that contest and will look to complete the season sweep.
Bobby Cannon ranks second on the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game, while Lolo Rudolph directs the offense with a team-best 5.2 assists per contest. Hutchinson also presents a strong rebounding presence with multiple players averaging around six rebounds per game and holds a 6–8 record at home this season.
Following Wednesday's matchup, the Trojans travel to Pratt to face a Beavers squad that enters the week 6–19 (3–17 KJCCC). Pratt is currently on a six-game losing streak but defeated Colby earlier this season at the Colby Event Center for its first conference win. Colby native Hunter Vaughn leads the Beavers' offensive attack. He scored 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the previous meeting and also leads the team in assists, averaging 3.2 per game.
With postseason hopes still alive, the Trojans will look to secure two important conference victories and strengthen their position in the standings during this pivotal road swing.
