GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Colby Trojans men's basketball faced a tough test on the road, coming up short against Garden City in conference play Wednesday night (Jan. 14). The Broncbusters used hot shooting and overwhelming bench production to seize control early and never looked back.
Garden City set the tone from the opening minutes, shooting efficiently from the floor. Colby stayed within reach early behind D.J. Cason, who led the Trojans with 20 points and knocked down three triples, but Garden City's depth quickly became a factor as the first half progressed.
The Broncbusters shot 47.5 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point range, repeatedly capitalizing on transition opportunities and second-chance points. Colby struggled to find an offensive rhythm, finishing the night shooting 32.4 percent while committing 28 turnovers, which Garden City converted into 35 points.
Despite the deficit, Colby continued to compete on the glass. Nana Keutcha posted a strong rebounding performance with 10 boards, while Rhett Kats added six rebounds. Kellan Simoneau provided a spark off the bench with 11 points in solid minutes. Colby also received strong contributions from Braedyn Gillespie, who finished with 10 points, and Owen Reece, who added eight.
Garden City's bench proved decisive, outscoring Colby's reserves 69–28 and maintaining pressure throughout the second half. The Broncbusters also controlled the paint, outscoring the Trojans 42–28 inside and holding a 47–37 advantage on the boards.
Colby will look to regroup at home as they face No. 19 Butler on Saturday (Jan. 15).
