Colby Equestrian Shines in Hunt Seat Debut in Wyoming

The Colby Community College equestrian team opened its first Hunt Seat event of the season with an impressive showing this past weekend at the University of Wyoming Show.

LARAMIE, Wyo. — The Colby Community College equestrian team opened its first Hunt Seat event of the season with an impressive showing this past weekend (Oct. 18–19) at the University of Wyoming Show. Coming off their home Western competition earlier this month, the Trojans transitioned smoothly to the English discipline, riding to multiple top finishes across divisions, highlighted by first-place wins from Makenzie Meinhardt, Kathryn Rush, and Sidney Morgan on Sunday.

Colby set the tone on Saturday with a steady showing across all divisions. In Intermediate Equitation, Meinhardt led the Trojans with a fifth-place finish over fences and a third-place ride on the flat, showcasing her consistency in both phases.

In Limit Equitation, Rush continued her strong early-season form, placing third over fences and fifth on the flat. The Novice Equitation on the Flat group produced multiple top finishes, led by Kairi Quinn in third, Paige Freidline in fifth, and Sidney Morgan in sixth, demonstrating Colby's depth in the division.

In Pre-Novice Equitation on the Flat, Serena Muser earned seventh place, while Savanah Mertens and Lauren Bowles also turned in solid rides in a competitive field. Rounding out the day, the Introductory Equitation on the Flat riders continued to gain valuable experience, with Joslyn Kimble placing fifth and Hailey Bolyard sixth.

The Trojans elevated their performance on Sunday, turning in some of their strongest rides of the season. In Intermediate Equitation Over Fences, Meinhardt delivered a standout performance to capture first place, adding a fourth-place finish in Intermediate Equitation on the Flat to complete a strong all-around weekend.

In Limit Equitation Over Fences, Rush and Kairi Quinn both impressed, with Rush earning the blue ribbon and Quinn placing fourth. The duo continued their success in Limit Equitation on the Flat, where Rush finished fourth and Quinn placed fifth.

The Trojans maintained their momentum in Novice Equitation on the Flat, where Sidney Morgan took first place, followed closely by Paige Freidline in second and Kaytelin Shinkle in fourth, giving Colby three of the top four spots in the class.

In Pre-Novice Equitation on the Flat, Leigha Fellhoelter and Savanah Mertens each earned fourth-place finishes, while Lauren Bowles placed fifth, rounding out a strong and consistent group effort. The Introductory Equitation on the Flat riders also performed well, led by Joslyn Kimble in third place and Hailey Bolyard in sixth.

The Colby equestrian team extends its appreciation to the University of Wyoming for hosting a successful show and to everyone who provided horses and support throughout the weekend. The Trojans will look to build on this momentum as they continue their fall Hunt Seat schedule in Colorado from October 25-26.
