Trojans Equestrian Earns Reserve High Point Team Honors to Begin Fall Season

COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Community College equestrian team turned in an impressive performance this past weekend (Oct. 4-5) at the Colby Fall Classic, hosted at the Colby Agricultural Center. The Trojans captured Reserve High Point Team honors on Sunday, highlighted by standout rides across all divisions and a dominant showing from sophomore Kairi Quinn, who was named the Overall High Point Rider and qualified regionally in both Ranch Riding and Level II Horsemanship.
The two-day home event brought together competitive riders from across the region, and the Trojans rose to the occasion with consistent top finishes.
In Ranch Riding, Quinn set the tone early with a strong second-place finish. She followed it up with another second-place ride in Level II Horsemanship, marking a solid start to her weekend campaign.
In Level I Horsemanship, Savanah Mertens placed second, followed closely by Sidney Morgan in third and Paige Freidline in fourth, giving Colby a clean sweep of the top four.
In Rookie B Horsemanship, Makenzie Meinhardt and Kathryn Rush tied for fifth, while Leigha Fellhoelter took sixth. Lauren Bowles added a fifth-place finish in Rookie A Horsemanship.
Colby's success continued in Beginner Horsemanship, where Joslyn Kimble and Hailey Bolyard each secured second place while Sarah Carey rounded out the class in fifth.
The Trojans carried their momentum into Sunday's competition, led once again by Quinn, who claimed first place in Ranch Riding and finished second in Level II Horsemanship to clinch the Overall High Point Rider title for Day 2.
In Level I Horsemanship, Sidney Morgan finished third, Paige Freidline fourth, and Savanah Mertens sixth, maintaining Colby's depth in the division.
The Rookie B riders shined with Makenzie Meinhardt taking second, Leigha Fellhoelter fourth, and Kathryn Rush sixth. Serena Muser also contributed a fifth-place finish in Rookie A Horsemanship.
The Beginner Horsemanship division closed out the weekend on a high note, with Joslyn Kimble and Hailey Bolyard both earning first-place honors, while Sarah Carey followed closely in third.
Colby Community College will return to action in two weeks as the team continues its IHSA Western season and looks to build on its early-season success.
