Colby Community College will welcome equestrian teams from across the region this weekend as it hosts the opening competition of the 2025 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 8, Region 5 season. The event will take place at the CCC Farm, located at 2002 County Road 23 in Colby.
Riders from Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming will travel to Colby to compete in a variety of divisions, marking the first test of the year for the Trojans. The home show provides an opportunity for CCC's equestrian program to showcase its student-athletes while competing against some of the top collegiate talent in the region.
The Trojans roster features a strong mix of returners and newcomers. Notable sophomores include Sarah G. Carey, Sidney Morgan, and Kairi Quinn, who are expected to provide leadership and experience throughout the season. They are joined by a talented group of riders: Hailey Bolyard, Lauren Bowles, Leigha Fellhoelter, Paige Freidline, Joslyn Kimble, Makenzie Meinhardt, Savanah Mertens, Serena Muser, Kathryn Rush, and Kaytelin Shinkle.
The program is under the direction of first-year head coach Kirsten Miessler, along with assistant coach Sara Jamison, who bring fresh leadership and energy to the team this season.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free, and the community is invited to attend and show support for the CCC equestrian team.
In addition to the action in the arena, the CCC women's wrestling team will provide concessions throughout the weekend, giving fans an opportunity to enjoy refreshments while supporting another Trojan program.
