Women’s cross country 10th at nationals, Kibet All-American
CCC freshman Winnie Kibet finished 13th overall and the Lady Trojans Cross Country team placed tenth at the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships November 12 at Prairie Trails Golf Course in El Dorado. It is the highest finish for the women's team in 10 years.
With her finish Kibet, from Eldoret, Kenya, earned All-American status.
"Winnie has taken enormous steps from the time she got here in January and we are just excited to watch her grow not only as an athlete but as a person," said head coach Cameron Rieth.
Kibet was also named the Coach's Association Region VI Female Athlete of the Year. She was the overall Region VI meet champion on Oct. 29 with a time of 18:28:54, smashing the 5K course record by more than 35 seconds.
"She is the most soft spoken person I have ever met, but she is a fierce competitor," Rieth said. "She applies that level of tenacity to her studies as well. We are very proud of her and we are excited about the direction of both of our Trojan cross country programs."
