The Colby women's wrestling team delivered a dominant performance in dual action, rolling past Fort Hays Tech Northwest in a lopsided 40–5 dual victory last Wednesday (Jan. 28).
The Trojans won nine of the 11 bouts, with six victories coming by fall. Audrie Felkins (117), Emma Parker (131), Destiny Gonzalez (138), Kaylen McAtee (180), and Catherine Dutton (207) all recorded pins to power Colby's lineup. Dutton continued her strong season with a decisive fall at 2:18, while McAtee capped off the dual with a pin at the 4:00 mark.
Following the dual, two Colby wrestlers competed in Leavenworth, KS at the Spire Classic, facing a strong field of four-year programs and national competition on Friday (Jan. 30)
Kaylen McAtee put together an impressive run at 160 pounds, advancing to the championship match after earning three wins by fall and a hard-fought 10–9 decision over Kristal Zamora (University of Saint Mary). McAtee finished the tournament as the runner-up after falling in the title bout, marking another strong showing against elite competition.
Aspen Sharpe, competing unattached at 110 pounds, battled through a deep bracket and secured a fifth-place finish. Sharpe picked up three wins on the day, including two by fall and a dominant 10–0 technical fall in the fifth-place match, showcasing grit and growth throughout the tournament.
The Trojans continue to build momentum across dual and tournament competition as the season progresses. The team is set for the Cerritos College Women's Open in California this weekend (Feb. 7). They then have one more open before the NJCAA Women's Wrestling Nationals begin in early March.
