The Colby Trojans women's wrestling team returns to dual action on Thursday (Dec. 11) as the Trojans travel to Hastings for a competitive tri-dual featuring Hastings College and the University of Sioux Falls. Competition inside Kiewit Gym is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m., with Colby set to take on two quality programs. Following the tri-dual, the Trojans will turn their attention to tournament action as they travel to the AU Women's Eagle Open on Sunday (Dec. 14). The event is slated to feature 19 teams and will provide another valuable opportunity for Colby's roster.
Colby enters the matchup at 1–5 overall, with its lone dual victory coming earlier this season against Midland University. The Trojans have not competed in dual format since hosting the Dust Bowl Duals, where they battled through four duals in a single day. Isabella Garrity emerged as one of the top performers at the Dust Bowl, going 3–1 at 117 pounds behind a 36-second fall, a gritty decision win, and a commanding technical fall. At 160 pounds, Atavia Cain extended her strong start with a pair of technical falls, while Emma Parker and Jazrine Nieto added important victories in the middle weights to help stabilize the lineup. Entering tomorrow's duals, Atavia Cain and Audrie Felkins hold 2–4 dual records, Garrity sits at 3–3, and Destiny Gonzalez has put together a strong 3–1 mark.
Since the Dust Bowl, Colby has showcased continued improvement on the tournament circuit. Freshman redshirt Aspen Sharpe delivered the team's top finish last weekend at the Bob Smith Open in Hays, wrestling unattached and placing fourth behind an impressive three-match run of first-period pins. Kaylen McAtee added two additional falls at 160, while Parker and Audrie Felkins each responded to opening-round setbacks with gritty bounce-back wins. Earlier in November, the Trojans also gained valuable experience at the prestigious Missouri Valley Open. Parker and Destiny Gonzalez both secured championship-side victories against nationally recognized opponents, and McAtee added another first-period pin in consolation action. As Colby steps back into dual competition Thursday, the Trojans aim to convert their steady individual progress into broader lineup momentum against two established programs.
Hastings enters the evening at 1–0 following a 28–17 comeback victory over Dickinson State earlier this month. The Broncos erased a 16–6 deficit with a series of bonus-point wins, including a 50-second technical fall at 138 and clutch pins at both 145 and 160. Hastings carried that momentum into last weekend's Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open, where several wrestlers produced notable performances, including freshman heavyweight Alexis Llamas, who earned a signature tech fall over a top-10 nationally ranked opponent. With experience, depth, and confidence on their home mat, the Broncos present a strong early-season test.
Sioux Falls arrives at Hastings with a 4–2 dual record and fresh off a dominant 38–9 win over Dakota Wesleyan. The Cougars controlled the dual from start to finish, taking eight bouts, including four technical falls, and closing the night with a rapid 30-second tech fall at heavyweight. With scoring power spread across its lineup and four dual wins already in hand, USF enters Thursday as another formidable opponent for the Trojans.
After this week's competition, the team will break before regrouping in mid-January for the York College Open.
