Colby is awarded the Sports Opportunity Grant from the NJCAA Foundation
COLBY, Kan. - Colby Community College is excited to start the women's Wrestling season for the next academic year, 2025-2026. Head Coach Michael Ruiz has been building a team to compete regionally and nationally. The NJCAA has top-level competition and provides more opportunities for women's wrestlers at the collegiate level, providing stability for the sport.
Colby has been awarded the Sports Opportunity Grant from the NJCAA Foundation to assist in expanding women's wrestling in the Trojans Athletic Department and community. The NJCAA Foundation states, "The NJCAA Foundation is excited to support further the growth of NJCAA member colleges and the sport programs they offer through the NJCAA Sport Opportunity Grant," said Andrew Givens, NJCAA Foundation Executive Director. "The ability to provide this funding is a testament to the importance and growth of two-year collegiate athletics. The NJCAA Foundation looks forward to this initiative's impact as NJCAA member colleges continue to create opportunities for student-athletes across the country.".
Trojans Athletic Director Kenny Hernandez states, "We thank the NJCAA Foundation for the Sport Opportunity Grant and for providing guidance in expanding Women's Wrestling at Colby Community College." Hernandez continued, "Colby has a great tradition in wrestling, and the Trojans' athletic department is thrilled to expand the sport with the additional opportunities for women's wrestling."
The Trojans will start their season this fall, with competitions beginning in late October of 2025. Colby will also look to compete at the NJCAA Invitational in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in March 2026.
