The No. 13 Trojans continue its postseason journey this weekend (Nov. 8-9), advancing to the NJCAA Division I Plains District Tournament semifinals after a dominant 3-0 sweep over Seward County on Wednesday (Nov. 5) night inside the Colby Event Center.
With the victory, the Trojans (23-6) move on to face No. 6 Hutchinson Community College in the semifinals on Saturday at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays, KS. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., or 60 minutes following the conclusion of the first semifinal between No. 1 Barton and No. 4 Dodge City, which begins at 5 p.m.
Colby looked sharp in its opening-round win over Seward County, hitting efficiently from start to finish. Karlotta Kattai paced the Trojans with another standout performance at the net, while setter Amanda Caputi continued to direct the offense with precision, maintaining her NJCAA-leading assist average. Ella Dridi and Isadora Carrareto also contributed key points and defensive stops as the Trojans swept their first round opponent with ease.
The matchup with Hutchinson is set to be an exciting one. The Trojans have yet to drop a set to the Blue Dragons this season, sweeping both regular-season meetings in convincing fashion. Colby will look to continue that dominance and punch its ticket to the Plains District Championship, with a potential berth to the NJCAA National Tournament on the line.
The winner of Saturday night's semifinal will advance to the NJCAA Division I Plains District Championship, with the tournament champion earning a berth to the NJCAA National Tournament later this month. They are set to serve off at 2 p.m.
