Three Trojans earn volleyball second team
Flueras, Kirkpatrick, and Chupin collect honors
The Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference named Trojans sophomores Ruxandra Flueras and McKenna Kirkpatrick and freshman Maëlie Chupin to the 2021 West/Region VI Division I Volleyball Second Team.
As a defensive specialist and libero, the 5-foot-5-inch Flueras ranked fourth in the Jayhawk with 330 digs and fifth with 5.50 digs per set. The Turin, Italy native appeared in 29 of Colby's 30 matches.
An all-conference honorable mention selection as a freshman, Kirkpatrick returned this season to lead the West with 12 solo blocks. The 5-11 middle blocker from Chapman was also second in both block assists (57) and total blocks (69). She will turn her attention to basketball season this winter and track in the spring.
Chupin's 159 conference kills ranked sixth, and she finished eighth with 2.74 kills per set. From Nantes, France, the 5-9 outside hitter had 949 total attacks, which was third-best.
On the season, the Trojans went 16-14 and advanced to the Region VI semifinal round.
