Johnson Earns Second Straight All-American Honor at NJCAA Championships
The Colby Trojans men’s wrestling team closed out its 2025–26 campaign at the NJCAA Men's Wrestling Championships this weekend, highlighted by an impressive All-American performance from Cah’mari Johnson, who battled his way through the consolation bracket to secure a seventh-place national finish.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA. – The Colby Trojans men's wrestling team closed out its 2025–26 campaign at the NJCAA Men's Wrestling Championships this weekend (March 6-7), highlighted by an impressive All-American performance from Cah'mari Johnson, who battled his way through the consolation bracket to secure a seventh-place national finish.
Johnson showed resilience throughout the tournament after receiving a first-round bye into the round of 32. Despite dropping his opening match, Johnson responded in impressive fashion, putting together one of the strongest consolation runs of the tournament. Facing elimination the rest of the way, Johnson rattled off four consecutive victories in the consolation bracket, defeating a series of nationally ranked opponents to keep his season alive and work his way into the consolation semifinals.
After falling in the consolation round of four, Johnson regrouped and delivered another strong performance in the seventh-place match, earning a victory to secure his spot on the podium. The finish marked Johnson's second consecutive All-American honor at the national championships, further cementing his place among the top wrestlers in the NJCAA ranks and closing out another outstanding season for the Trojans.
Luis Vasquez represented Colby at 125 pounds and finished the tournament with a 1–2 record. After dropping his opening bout, Vasquez responded with a win in the consolation bracket to keep his tournament hopes alive. His run ultimately came to an end in the consolation round of 16 following a hard-fought match.
Bob Tatum also competed for the Trojans and received a bye into the round of 32 to begin his tournament. After a loss in his opening match, Tatum battled back on the consolation side with two consecutive victories to move into the consolation round of 16. His run was halted there, but his effort highlighted a determined performance on the national stage.
Talon Suttles followed a similar path after earning a bye into the round of 32. Suttles dropped his first match before responding with two straight wins in the consolation bracket to keep himself in contention. His tournament run came to an end in the consolation round of 16 after another competitive matchup.
The Trojans traveled to the national championships with five wrestlers competing on the sport's biggest stage and concluded the event with one All-American finish. Johnson's podium performance highlighted the weekend for Colby as the Trojans wrapped up the 2025–26 season against the nation's top junior college competition.
