The Colby Community College men's wrestling team completed one of its busiest weeks of the fall with two Friday (Nov. 21) duals followed by a full day of competition at the UNK Younes Hospitality Open Saturday (Nov. 22).
The Trojans opened the week on a high note with a decisive 39–15 victory over Otero Junior College. Tevin Jackson sparked the dual with a gritty decision win at 125 pounds before Talon Suttles added a first-period fall at 133. Elijah Sierra kept the momentum rolling with a pin at 141, while Colby also benefitted from two wins by default to extend its lead. Kash Alley continued his strong stretch with a fall at 184, and heavyweight Kevaun Jones closed out the dual by sticking his opponent for the final points in a dominant team performance. Colby then squared off with No. 5 Southeast Community College in the night's second dual, dropping a 56–0 result to a nationally ranked lineup.
With little time to recover, the Trojans turned their attention to Saturday's Younes Hospitality Open in Kearney, one of the largest and most competitive tournaments of the early season. Several Trojans delivered promising individual efforts in the Amateur Division. At 133 pounds, Talon Suttles led the group with two falls and a deep run through the bracket, while teammate Savieon Garrison added a pin of his own to reach the quarterfinals. Elijah Sierra contributed a major decision in consolation action, and Bryant Jones put together one of the better Trojan outings of the day with a first-round decision and a 17-2 tech fall at 174 pounds. At 184, Kash Alley followed up his midweek dual pin with another fall in his opening match, and heavyweights Robert Tatum and Kevaun Jones each recorded wins, Tatum by fall in the first round and Jones with both a pin and a 2–1 decision in the consolations.
With a dual win in hand and several wrestlers showing signs of momentum, the Trojans return to action next weekend at the Bob Smith Open in Hays, KS.
