CONCORDIA, Kan. - Coming off a statement win over No. 3 Dodge City, the Colby Trojans women's basketball team ran into a tough road test, falling 64–47 to Cloud County on Saturday (Feb. 7) in Concordia.
Colby competed early, keeping the game tight through the opening quarter, but the Trojans struggled to find a consistent offensive rhythm as Cloud County used a decisive second-quarter push to create separation. The Thunderbirds outscored Colby 22–12 in the second quarter, sending the Trojans into halftime trailing 34–22.
It proved to be a challenging night offensively for Colby, as the Trojans shot 29.6 percent from the field. Despite the shooting struggles, Colby continued to battle inside, finishing with a 39–27 rebounding advantage, including 16 offensive rebounds, which led to 19 second-chance points.
Olivia Hultgren and Easha Potts paced the Trojans with 12 points apiece. Hultgren was efficient from the floor, knocking down 5-of-9 shots and connecting on two three-pointers, while Potts added a team-high seven rebounds and hit three shots from beyond the arc. Dessirae Ulmer contributed nine points and six rebounds, providing a steady presence in the paint.
Turnovers and efficiency proved costly, as Cloud County capitalized on 23 Colby turnovers for 18 points, while also finishing the night shooting 47.9 percent from the field. The Thunderbirds were led by Leila Washington, who posted 20 points and nine rebounds, and Lauren Marron, who added 17 points.
The Trojans will look to respond quickly as they continue conference play this Saturday (Feb. 14) at home against Coffeyville.
