The Colby Trojans women's basketball team hits the road Wednesday (Jan. 14) for a key KJCCC matchup at Garden City before returning home Saturday (Jan. 17) to face No. 11 Butler Community College.
Colby enters the week at 8–8 (5–5 KJCCC), riding strong momentum after two consecutive dominant victories. The Trojans have won their last two games by a combined 69 points, showcasing a defensive identity that has become a cornerstone for success. Colby currently ranks fourth in the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 56.6 points per game, while averaging 58.6 points offensively.
Sophomore Desiree Ulmer continues to lead the way for the Trojans, averaging 13.8 points per game while also pacing the team on the glass with 7.1 rebounds per contest. Freshman standout Olivia Hultgren has put together an impressive all-around season, contributing 10.4 points per game along with 2.3 assists and rebounds, giving Colby consistent offense.
Garden City enters Wednesday's matchup at 12–3 (7–3 KJCCC), coming off a narrow 61–59 victory over Cloud County. The Broncbusters boast one of the league's most potent offenses, averaging 70.5 points per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the field, second-best in the conference. Sokhna Ndiaye leads Garden City with 18.0 points per game, ranking third in the KJCCC. Marshea Fisher anchors the Broncbusters on the boards at over six rebounds per game and also leads the team in assists at nearly four per contest. Garden City is also a strong perimeter shooting team, hitting 33.0 percent from beyond the arc, third-best in the conference.
Following the road contest, the Trojans return to the Colby Event Center to take on No. 11 Butler CC on Saturday. Butler enters the week at 15–1 (9–1 KJCCC), currently riding a six-game winning streak. The Grizzlies average 75.9 points per game, third in the KJCCC, while maintaining a balanced scoring attack. Ashley Singateh leads Butler at 12.1 points per game, with Keegan Yarick close behind at 11.0 points per contest. Yarick also leads the team in rebounding at 6.4 per game.
Butler is one of the conference's most complete teams, ranking second in rebounds per game (44.8), second in scoring margin (+11.4), and second in fewest points allowed at just 50.0 per game. Defensively, the Grizzlies hold opponents to a conference-best 33.4 field goal percentage, presenting a significant challenge for the Trojans.
