COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Trojans women's basketball team turned in one of its most complete performances of the season Wednesday night (Jan. 7), overwhelming Pratt Community College 74–30 at the Colby Event Center.
The opening quarter moved quickly, with Easha Potts scoring the first basket of the night for the Trojans, setting the tone defensively from the start. Dessirae Ulmer quickly emerged as the focal point offensively, scoring six of Colby's first 10 points as the Trojans took a 10–4 lead after one.
Colby broke the game open in the second quarter. Four different Trojans scored in the opening minutes, igniting a decisive run that put Pratt on its heels. Elia Ando made an immediate impact off the bench, converting an and-one that energized the Trojans and sparked another scoring surge. Colby's defense was relentless throughout the quarter, forcing turnovers and limiting Pratt to just seven points. Piri Lewis capped the half with a smooth floater in the lane, sending Colby into the locker room with a commanding 34–11 advantage.
The Trojans showed no signs of slowing down after halftime. Ulmer opened the second half with four quick points, and Jera Kruleski followed with a three-pointer to push the lead to 30. Adrian Neal provided a spark off the bench, knocking down two three-pointers during the third quarter as Colby continued to extend the margin. The Trojans outscored Pratt 21–11 in the frame, maintaining control on both ends of the floor.
Colby's depth was on full display in the fourth quarter. Kruleski opened the period with another three, and Ando took over shortly after, scoring nine consecutive points to showcase her presence in the paint. Logan Nolan punctuated the night with a three-pointer late, sealing the Trojans' emphatic 74–30 victory.
Defense defined the night for Colby, as the Trojans forced 28 Pratt turnovers and converted them into 29 points, while holding the Beavers to just 25.5 percent shooting from the field. Pratt struggled to find any offensive rhythm, scoring in single digits in three of the four quarters.
Offensively, Colby dominated the interior, outscoring Pratt 42–14 in the paint and adding 15 second-chance points off strong rebounding efforts. The Trojans finished with a 41–29 edge on the glass and consistently generated high-percentage scoring opportunities.
Ulmer led all scorers with an efficient 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, adding five rebounds to anchor Colby's inside attack. Ando delivered a strong performance off the bench with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Lewis filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Colby also recorded 15 steals and six blocks while committing just nine turnovers, further highlighting the Trojans' defensive discipline. Despite a cold shooting night from beyond the arc, Colby made up the difference by attacking the paint and converting 11-of-17 free throws.
Pratt was led by Kalani Brock, who finished with seven points, 10 rebounds, and four assists, but the Beavers were unable to overcome Colby's physicality and defensive pressure, shooting just 3-of-14 from three-point range.
With the convincing victory, Colby improved to 7–8 (4–5 KJCCC). The Trojans will look to carry that momentum into their next conference matchup on Saturday (Jan. 10), when they travel to Goodland for a 2 p.m. CST tipoff.
