COLBY, Kan. — The Colby Community College women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season Tuesday (Nov. 11) night, falling 67-58 to Lamar Community College inside the Colby Event Center. Despite a strong start and balanced scoring across the lineup, the Trojans couldn't maintain their early rhythm as Lamar used a big third quarter to pull away.
Colby (3-1) came out firing in the opening half, building an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and heading into halftime ahead 35-25. The Trojans connected on nine three-pointers overall, including three from Olivia Hultgren, who provided an early spark with nine points on 3-for-3 shooting from deep in just ten minutes of action.
However, the momentum shifted in the third quarter, where Lamar outscored Colby 26-10 to seize control. Turnovers and cold shooting plagued the Trojans down the stretch, as they were held to just 13 points in the final period.
Sophomore Dessirae Ulmer led Colby with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting while adding four rebounds. Amisha Russell contributed 11 points, hitting three triples and going 2-of-4 from the line, while Jera Kruleski added 10 points, three steals, and a pair of threes of her own. Elia Ando and Easha Potts combined for seven points and 12 rebounds, with Potts leading the team on the glass with seven boards..
The Trojans will look to bounce back this weekend at the Barton Classic in Great Bend, where they'll face a pair of tough opponents before conference play begins.
On Friday (Nov. 14) at 5:30 p.m., Colby matches up with Redlands Community College, then on Saturday (Nov. 15) at 1 p.m., the Trojans wrap up the weekend against Grayson College. With conference play just around the corner, set to open next Wednesday at home against Independence Community College, this weekend provides an important tune-up opportunity for Colby.
