Colby softball enters the week 11-9 (6-2 KJCCC), coming off a split series against Hutchinson. The Trojans will kick off the week on the road in Texas with back-to-back non-conference doubleheaders, taking on Howard Monday (March 16) and Midland Tuesday (March 17). After a brief break midweek, Colby returns home for a pair of key conference matchups Friday (March 20) against Butler and Saturday (March 21) versus Seward County.
Sophomore Briley Christensen continues to dominate at the plate, earning NJCAA Player of the Week honors last week. Over a recent stretch, she went 9-for-12 with 11 RBIs, nine runs scored, and five extra-base hits, finishing with a staggering 1.667 slugging percentage and a .762 on-base percentage. Christensen currently leads the conference in batting average and has been a consistent force in the middle of the Trojan lineup.
The team overall is hitting .363 with a .644 slugging percentage and has belted 37 home runs. Olivia Wirth is scorching hot, batting .500 in 28 at-bats with four extra-base hits. Brooke Zinken leads the team with nine home runs, second in the conference, and is tied with Christensen for most extra-base hits.
The Trojan pitching staff is anchored by Cheyenne Cramer, who carries a 5-2 record with a 4.99 ERA and 6.20 strikeouts per seven innings, allowing 29 earned runs. Katelyn Zukewich complements the staff with 47 strikeouts, ranking third in the conference, despite a 1-3 record and a 6.52 ERA.
Colby opens the week on the road in Texas with a doubleheader against Howard. The Lady Hawks are struggling at 1-25 overall and are on a 10-game losing streak. As a team, they hit .272 with eight home runs, led by Isabella Farinha (.389) and Brynn Rodgers (.383). Colby will look to stay hot offensively and take advantage of Howard's tough stretch.
On Tuesday, the Trojans travel to Midland to face a 15-3 team that has been dominant at home with a 14-2 record. Midland hits .365 as a team with a .650 slugging percentage. Adrelina Noriega leads the offense with a .500 average, while Jozanna Montes paces the team with 22 RBIs and nine home runs. Colby's pitchers will need to be sharp against Midland ace Anays Perez, who has an 8-1 record and a 2.50 ERA, striking out 45 while walking only 13 in nine appearances.
After a few days off, Colby returns home Friday to face Butler, who enters at 6-8 (4-2 KJCCC). The team is riding a four-game winning streak and hits .288 with a .446 slugging percentage. Following Butler, the Trojans host Seward County on Saturday. The Saints are 10-14 (2-4 KJCCC), dropping both previous matchups to Hutchinson and Butler. Taylor Harding leads Seward County with a .443 batting average, 31 hits, and 13 stolen bases, making her a key player Colby will need to contain.
