The Colby rodeo team is set to hit the road this week for the 53rd SWOSU NIRA Rodeo, taking place April 9–11 at the B.O.P. Ram Rodeo Grounds (Radar Park) – Don Mitchell Arena.
The three-day event will feature a full slate of competition, beginning Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., followed by multiple slack rounds and evening performances leading up to Saturday night's short go finale.
Colby opens competition Thursday (April 9) with a strong presence in the women's events. Brooklynn Hughes will represent the Trojans in goat tying while also doubling up in barrel racing. She'll be joined in the barrels by Mara Kats and Emma Krase, giving Colby multiple chances to make an early impact in the arena.
Action continues Friday (April 10) with another full day of competition. In breakaway roping, Sadee Adamson, Alaura Crockett and Mara Kats will take their runs as the Trojans look to stay competitive in a deep field. On the men's side, Kade Homm is set to compete in tie-down roping, while Lakoddah Downes will represent Colby in steer wrestling. Crockett will also return to action in barrel racing later in the day, adding to a busy schedule for the Trojans.
With multiple entries across key events and opportunities spread throughout the weekend, Colby will look to build momentum heading into Saturday's (April 11) final rounds and position themselves for a strong showing in the short go under the lights.
