The Colby Community College rodeo team is set to take on its next challenge beginning tomorrow (Sept. 25) at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University Rodeo, hosted at the Durant Riding Club Arena behind the Bryan County Fairgrounds.
The three-day event features morning slack rounds and evening performances before concluding with the championship short go on Saturday (Sept. 27). Slack begins at 10 a.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday, with main performances scheduled for both Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. The top finishers from each event will return for the short go on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Colby will have a strong presence throughout the weekend. Thursday's opening slack includes four Trojans in breakaway roping—Sadee Adamson, Mara Kats, Andrea Cantillo, and Dali Reser. Kats will also compete in ladies barrel racing alongside Constance Kautz Johnasen, while Lakoddah Downes and Kade Homm will take on team roping to add to a busy morning for the Trojans.
That evening, Colby makes its first appearance under the Durant lights as Brooklyn Hughes and Reser take part in goat tying during the opening performance.
Friday's morning slack brings another full slate. Rylie Sexson will compete in three events while Alaura Lea Crockett-Armijo is entered in two. Hughes and Reser will also return for additional runs.
Friday night's performance will close out Colby's preliminary rounds, with Downes set for steer wrestling and Homm entered in team roping.
The action wraps up Saturday afternoon with the short go finals at 2 p.m., where the region's top scorers will return to the arena. With 11 Trojans spread across multiple timed events, Colby enters the SEOSU Rodeo with depth and an opportunity to carry momentum into the start of the fall season.
