Cross Country Closes Strong at NJCAA Half Marathon Championships
The Colby Community College cross country teams wrapped up their fall season Tuesday at the NJCAA Half Marathon Championships, turning in gutsy performances and closing out another strong year for the program. Men finish 13th overall.
FORT DODGE, Iowa — The Colby Community College cross country teams wrapped up their fall season Tuesday (Nov. 11) at the NJCAA Half Marathon Championships, turning in gutsy performances and closing out another strong year for the program.
The No. 9 Trojan men placed 13th overall with 150 points, led once again by the standout Japhet Kiprono, who finished 17th in 1:08:59.2. Kiprono has been anchoring the lineup with his trademark endurance all season long.
Vincent Kirui finished 59th (1:14:29.6) while Kenan Delestre climbed as high as 13th place through the opening stages. Though the pace eventually took its toll, he battled to the finish, crossing the line 97th in 1:17:44.0. Dakotah Kotchuck finished 98th (1:17:44.0), while Andrew Berger (114th, 1:19:08.1), Edoney Russell (174th, 1:28:07.5), and Junior Edouard (185th, 1:31:20.5) rounded out Colby's scoring effort.
On the women's side, Nadine Mcintyre once again delivered a strong performance, placing 16th in 1:24:07.5. Mcintyre has been a model of reliability all season, consistently leading the Trojan women with composed efforts. Blanca Gallegos was the other Colby representative and finished in just over 2 hours.
The meet capped a season full of progress for Colby cross country, as first year head coach Mathew Scott's teams continue to build momentum into the track seasons moving forward.
