COLBY, Kan. — Competing on their home course at Meadow Lake Golf Course, the Colby Community College cross country teams delivered strong performances at the 2025 NJCAA Region 6 Championships on Friday (Oct. 24). The Trojan men earned a third-place team finish with 92 points, while the women battled to seventh overall with 171 points in a deep regional field against a stacked regional field featuring multiple nationally ranked programs.
For the No. 10-ranked Colby men, sophomore Japhet Kiprono continued to lead the charge, crossing the line in eighth place with a time of 24:54.72, marking another sub-25 effort in an impressive sophomore campaign. Kiprono's effort earned him All-Region and All-KJCCC honors. Right behind him, Kenan Delestre clocked 25:19.58 to finish 13th, giving the Trojans two top-15 finishers and valuable low sticks early in the scoring. He also claimed All-Region recognition.
Freshmen Enoha Reizabal-Bellanger, Vincent Kirui and Thomas Calas packed tightly to finish 19th (26:15.24), 24th (26:32.99), and 28th (26:51.55) respectively, closing out Colby's scoring five. The Trojans' third-place team finish placed them behind national powers Hutchinson and Butler, reaffirming Colby's status as one of the top NJCAA Division I programs in the country.
On the women's side, the newly ranked No. 25 Trojan women continued their rise with a seventh-place finish in the 5,000-meter race, led by sophomore Nadine Mcintyre. Mcintyre clocked 19:27.13 to take 10th place overall, earning All-Region honors and cementing herself among the top runners in the KJCCC this fall. She was able to get All-Region recognition.
Freshman Laina Larson turned in a strong effort for 32nd (21:16.76), followed by Shirley Cotant in 37th (22:11.35). Rounding out the scoring five were Kaylen McAtee (50th – 23:38.32) and Blanca Gallegos (59th – 25:24.76), as the Trojans put together a determined showing against one of the deepest women's fields in recent memory.
With both teams finishing inside the top half of the field, Colby heads into the NJCAA Cross Country National Championships (Nov. 8–11) in Fort Dodge, Iowa, with strong momentum. The Trojans will look to build on their Region 6 success and once again make noise on the national stage.
