Cox Shatters School Record in Discus at Alex Francis Classic
The Colby Trojans men’s track and field team put together a strong showing at the Alex Francis Classic in Hays, highlighted by a broken 51 year old record, and multiple top finishes in an NCAA DII meet.
HAYS, Kan. - The Colby Trojans men's track and field team put together a strong showing at the Alex Francis Classic in Hays on Thursday (April 23), highlighted by a broken 51 year old record, and multiple top finishes in an NCAA DII meet.
The field events were highlighted by a historic performance from Jared Cox, who broke a 51-year-old school record in the discus with a throw of 149-0. Tamario Petty added a top-10 finish in the event and now ranks 10th in school history, while also placing eighth in the hammer throw. Sumner Homolka contributed with an eighth-place finish in the javelin.
Leading the way on the track, Alexandre LeRoy claimed the 800-meter title with a time of 1:53.25, a mark that now ranks fourth all-time in program history. Thomas Calas added to the strong showing in the event with a fourth-place finish (1:56.23). Redith Stubbs recorded an eighth-place finish in the 400 meters (49.52), while Harley McPherson added a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (57.72).
In the distance events, Japhet Kiprono brought home another win for the Trojans, taking first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:51.38.
Meanwhile, at the Drake Relays, Kenan Delestre represented the Trojans with a standout performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing fifth in a time of 9:05.24 to earn an NJCAA qualifying mark.
