Gritty effort results in Trojan win over Neosho
Colby holds on 76-71
The injury riddled Colby Community College men's basketball team overcame a 14-point deficit and outlasted the Neosho Community College Panthers 76-71 Wednesday night at the Colby Community Building.
"We finally found a way to finish a tough game," said head coach Rusty Grafel. "We are still banged up, but we had a great effort from all the guys!"
The Trojans fell behind 17-3 early before settling in and taking a 43-42 lead before halftime. They led by as many as 11 in the second half and held off a late 14-8 Panther run.
Nine players got in the game for Colby, although freshman point guard Jeremiah Hudspeth didn't play the second half because of an ongoing leg injury.
"The best part of this win was the confidence we can build off as a team," Grafel added.
The Trojans, 2-8 in the Jayhawk Conference and 6-8 overall, travel to Liberal Saturday to play the Seward County Saints (2-8, 5-9). Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
