Trojan basketball goes 2-0
Young team wins both weekend games during the Colby Ambassador Classic
The Colby Community College men's basketball team picked up two wins in the annual Colby Ambassador Basketball Classic Nov. 4-5 at the Colby Community Building.
The Trojans began Friday night with a dominating performance over the Sterling College JV, 108-71. Freshman David Hall had a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Cole Smith poured in 23 and freshman Shaq Athie had 11.
CCC's solid play continued Saturday as they held off the Northwest Kansas All-Stars, 81-64. Athie led the Trojans with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists. Hall was in double figures again with 17 points.
"It was great to start the season in front of our home crowd," said head coach Rusty Grafel. "We have a lot of new faces, so hopefully we got any first-game nerves out of us before we play again at home this Saturday."
After a trip to Winfield Monday to play the Southwestern University JV, the Trojans play their conference opener Saturday night at home against Barton County. Game time is 8 p.m.
