The Colby Trojans Livestock Judging team wrapped up a busy late spring season with strong representation across multiple contests, highlighted by leadership by sophomore Jessica Jahay and continued growth from a competitive freshman group.
Jessica Jahay led the way for the Trojans, competing in back-to-back shows at the San Antonio Livestock Exposition and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. As the program's lone sophomore, Jahay embraced a leadership role while competing against top talent on a national stage.
"Jessica has been an outstanding leader for this group," said first year head coach Emma Eldridge. "Being the only sophomore isn't easy, but she set the tone every day with her work ethic and attitude. We're excited to see where her future in the industry takes her."
The freshman class continued to build momentum throughout the spring, competing at both the CSC Masters Freshman Contest and the HCC Blue Dragons Classic Freshman Contest. Keaton Fattig highlighted the group's performances at the Blue Dragons Classic, placing 11th in sheep, 14th in goats, and tying for 10th overall, an impressive finish in a competitive field.
Beyond competition, the Trojans made a significant impact by giving back to the livestock judging community. Team members served as officials and volunteers at numerous contests across Kansas, supporting youth livestock judging events and helping develop the next generation of competitors. Their travels took them to Dodge City, Smith Center, Goodland, Hays, Leoti, and right here in Colby, where they assisted with the district horse judging contest. These events were largely 4-H and FFA sanctioned competitions, providing valuable experience for young judges across the state.
With a balance of competition, leadership, and service, the Trojans closed out the spring season on a strong note and continue to build a foundation for future success under head coach Emma Eldridge.
