Colby's baseball squad is set for a busy and challenging week, hitting the road for five non-conference contests as the Trojans look to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
The slate begins with a single nine-inning matchup against McCook Tuesday (April 21), marking the third meeting between the two teams this year and Colby's second trip to McCook, before shifting east for a four-game series against Kansas City Kansas, featuring doubleheaders on both Friday (April 24) and Saturday (April 25).
The Trojans enter the week riding a wave of momentum following an explosive offensive showing against Garden City. Colby erupted for 34 runs in a doubleheader sweep, highlighted by a dominant 17–7 victory and a thrilling 17–15 walk-off win. The lineup piled up 33 hits and launched multiple home runs across the two games, showcasing both depth and timely hitting. The weekend was capped by Turner Zdunich's dramatic walk-off home run in the ninth inning, sealing one of the team's most exciting wins of the season.
As a team, Colby has been one of the most productive offenses in the region, hitting .316 with a .419 on-base percentage and a .546 slugging percentage. The Trojans have also displayed significant power, blasting 80 home runs on the season, just nine shy of beating the program's single-season record of 88.
Freshman Anthony Deblois has been a steady presence in the middle of the lineup, currently leading the team with a .368 batting average while continuing to deliver in key situations. Turner Zdunich has been one of the most complete hitters on the roster this season, batting .358 while leading the team in RBIs, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. He also tops the Trojans with 13 home runs and has drawn 28 walks. Overall, Colby's offense has featured impressive balance, with eight players driving in more than 20 runs and six surpassing the 30-RBI mark.
On the mound, Rory MacDonald has been in strong form, highlighted by a complete-game victory over Seward County earlier this season and a recent six-inning win against Garden City. In conference play, he holds a 2–2 record with an ERA under 10 across 35.2 innings pitched. Out of the bullpen, Dallen Rude has provided stability in late-game situations and is currently tied for the conference lead with three saves.
McCook enters the midweek matchup with a 36–10 record and has already claimed two wins over Colby this season. Offensively, they boast a .340 team batting average along with 78 home runs and a .603 slugging percentage. McCook had been riding a 10-game winning streak before dropping a contest to Luna over the weekend.
Kansas City Kansas presents another tough challenge, coming in at 31–16 (22–6 KJCCC). The Blue Devils have been dominant at the plate, hitting .354 as a team with a .465 on-base percentage and an impressive .617 slugging percentage. They have totaled 86 home runs this season and are led by Owen Musil, who is hitting .430 with a team-high 62 RBIs. Ian Wolta adds even more power to the lineup with 19 home runs and a .360 batting average.
With the regular season winding down, this week provides a key opportunity for the Trojans to continue building rhythm. Colby will look to carry its recent offensive surge into these matchups as it prepares for its final conference series of the season next week against Dodge City.
